A good way to clean the scum line and/or bow "mustache" is with Lemon Juice. "ReaLemon" from concentrate is a good product. When you change the coolant in a small engine or generator, be sure the bleed screw near the top of the tank is open to allow air to escape. If not, the engine will start, but not run due to this trapped air which hinders circulation. There are so many Plexiglass, Vinyl and other similar materials which are used for marine enclosures. The trouble is keeping them clean inside and out. There are many items on the market to do this tedious task, but you might want to try a home grown product. Take a spray bottle (about a quart), fill it with water and add a few drops of Dawn Dish Washing Liquid. Spray on, wipe down the surface and dry with a terry cloth. This is a very effective and inexpensive solution. There may be some who have not heard of a neat way to change a spin-on oil filter on a small diesel. Get it started to spin off, then pull a zip-lock bag up to enclose the whole filter. As the filter comes off the bag will collect it and whatever oil comes with it. Zip the bag and deliver to an authorized reception center. REMEMBER: Before beginning any oil changing, be sure you know where to deliver the spent oil. Some marinas have there own reception items or local governments will have such sites. This is the LAW and prevents pollution.
